In terms of the most crucial preventive vaccine measures for chicken production, there seems to be no argument with feeding antibiotics and vaccinating chickens in routine rearing. However, the air in the plant is neglected to be sterilised, disinfected and purified, while air contaminated by bacteria and viruses etc. is ready to cause disease. In addition, feeding drugs not only increases production costs, but also accumulates and in turn endangers the health of the chickens. At the same time, excessive use of chemicals can impair the calcium absorption function of chickens and make them prone to laying soft-shelled eggs. In terms of food hygiene, chickens carrying growth factors and antibiotics are prone to cause health hazards to humans and affect the marketability of chicken meat. New technical breakthroughs have to be found in order to improve production efficiency and product quality.
The application of ozone technology is an effective way for poultry farms to break through conventional technology, improve production efficiency and ensure the quality of meat and eggs to maintain sustainable development. The use of ozone for sterilisation, disinfection and purification in the prevention of epidemics is a common technology used on modern poultry farms abroad.
There are two aspects to the application of ozone technology in poultry farms: firstly, the use of ozone to continuously sterilise, disinfect and purify the air in the house, and secondly, the regular feeding of ozonated water. Ozone is a strong oxidising agent, he is more powerful than chlorine preparations, formalin etc. Ozone produces intermediate substances monoatomic oxygen (O) and hydroxide (OH) in water, which are similar to the oxidising properties of fluorine. Ozone is reduced to oxygen or produces water in the process of sterilisation, bleaching, deodorisation, decontamination and decomposition of chemical pollutants without secondary pollution. Tests have shown that the standard for ozone disinfection and purification in poultry sheds is 1000mg/h of ozone per 100-150m2 of space (1000-1500 chickens). It is generally required that the ozone smell (grass smell) can be smelt at a distance of four or five metres from the ozone purifier, it does not have to be too strong.
When the ozone is injected into the poultry shed, it first reacts with the odour emitted by the poultry excrement to decompose, and when the odour is removed to a slight smell of ozone, the E. coli, Staphylococcus and Newcastle disease, chicken ooze, avian flu and other viruses in the shed space are basically killed with it. In addition, it should not be overlooked that the poultry excrement emitting ammonia and other hazards caused to the birds cannot be eliminated by chemical drugs, but ozone can effectively achieve the purpose of purification.
Ozonated water soaked in ozone and supplied to the birds can change the micro-ecological environment of the birds' intestines, reducing the number of bacteria that feed on the host's nutrients and reducing the host's nutrient consumption. It also increases the activity of starch secreted by beneficial bacteria, which improves the utilisation of feed nutrients by birds, especially young birds, and promotes healthy growth. Ozonated water is effective in preventing intestinal diseases such as white diarrhoea in hens. It is important to note that the half-life of ozone in water is about 20 minutes, so it is better to use it while it is being produced. Ozone breaks down chemicals and the ozonated water should be kept half an hour apart from the drug supply. The ozonated water is produced by a special ozone generator, which is more advanced with the poultry drinking water unit.
Ozone effectively curbs poultry diseases, improves survival rates and promotes healthy growth, with virtually no mortality due to disease in broilers. The chickens can be slaughtered a week earlier; the egg-laying hens can maintain a stable egg production rate. By mastering the specific application techniques of ozone, farmers can reduce the input of drugs such as antibiotics, lower production costs and improve product quality.
